Fly Fishing Trips: Reno Fly Fishing

Expert and beginner freshwater fishermen alike enjoy fly fishing trips to the Alpine waters of Reno's well known Lake Tahoe. Within a 75 mile radius of Lake Tahoe there are over 450 rivers, streams, reservoirs and lakes, and many of these high country lakes are kept well stocked with fish by government agencies.

There are eight or more varieties of trout to be found at Lake Tahoe, including German brown trout, brook trout, lake trout (mackinaws), cutthroat trout, golden trout, Paiute trout and camloop trout. In addition to these are a number of other species including mountain whitefish, perch, catfish, smallmouth and largemouth bass, and the prized kokanee salmon. Lake Tahoe's fishing season is all year round, though fishing is not allowed in the tributaries or in the lake within 300 feet of the tributaries between 1st October and 30th June.

Whether you are visiting Lake Tahoe for sport fishing or are on a fly fishing trip, it is a good idea to find out some information about charter services and Reno fly fishing guides first. Reno fly fishing guides are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and are trained to help you make the most of your trip, and they are also licensed and insured. The services of one of these guides would be a great advantage to you on your visit.

Here are some of the best companies who supply Reno fly fishing guides: Johnson Tackle and Guide Service, Horse Feathers Fly Fishing School, Alpine Fly Fishing, Truckee River Fly Fishing Products, California School of Fly Fishing, The Reel School of Fly Fishing, Thy Rod and Staff Fly Fishing, Truckee Trout Guides, Truckee River Outfitter, and Trout Creek Flies.

These are all reputable and experienced companies who can provide you with a licensed, insured guide with the training and skills to help you, and each of them provides its own particular range of services. It could be a good idea to make contact with them before leaving on your trip, and arrange for the services you require in advance.

There are other companies who can provide you with boat services including fishing guides and all necessary services including licenses sold on board the boats. These companies include: Tahoe Sportfishing Company, Four Reel Sportfishing, Mile High Fishing Charters, Lake Tahoe Sportfishing, Muller's Sport Fishing, Blue Ribbon Fishing Charters, Tahoe Angler Sportfishing, and Hernandez Guide Service. The cost of a half day fishing trip with one of these companies ranges from around $60 to $80 per person.

Note that license fees and fishing regulations vary between Nevada and California, so you will need to decide exactly where you are going to take your fly fishing trips, so that you know which state's jurisdiction you will be under (or possibly both). You should also work out what kind of license you will need, for example size limits and requirements, one or two rods, year round or restricted season. If you are not sure of these details, check with your chosen fly fishing guide who will be able to advise you.
