Fly Fishing Trips: About Fly Fishing

Thousands of anglers enjoy live bait fishing and are considered as truly great sportsmen; however it is the fly fishermen who have overall better conservation practices.

Fly fishing is one of the world's fastest growing sports around the world. In addition to it being a prominent form of aquatic recreational activity it is also an activity that encourages conservation of natural resource conservation.

If you want to indulge in the sport of fly fishing, there are three elements you absolutely must get right. The first thing you need to do is to get yourself a suitable rod, then the right sort of line to go with it. After this you need to learn how to cast properly. If you get these three things right, then fly fishing is simple.

Here are some useful tips for those of you who would like to learn more and develop your fly fishing skills so you will have better success on your next fly fishing trip:

1. Rod material

A rod made of hollow glass is a good material for a beginner, especially if you not have lots of money to spend on your rod. Glass does not need as much care as bamboo, and will not suffer too much damage if you do not store or handle it properly.

2. Line

You must match your line to your rod, or you will not be able to improve your casting skills. 99% of the time, people who seem to have trouble with fly casting are using a line which is way too light and therefore does not bring out the rod's action.

It is important to match the line size to the rod, rather than to the fish. You should use the same line for the largest sea fish or the smallest trout, and everything in between.

Most of the rods used these days are hollow glass, and the majority of these rods perform best with HCH double-taper, C level or GBF three-diameter size line, whatever the weight or length of the rod.

3. Correct casting technique

First, make sure that you have around twenty feet of line out, and to cast in a straight line. Even if you need to make fast movements, be sure to avoid making jerky ones. Most importantly, casting is ruined by tight muscles, so be sure that you are relaxed.

In general, these basic principles are easy for anyone to learn, and having mastered them you can enjoy fly fishing as much as anyone.

The best way to learn the basics of casting is usually to spend a day out fishing with an experienced fly fisherman. This kind of learning experience is the ideal way to pick up great tips and succeed in your desire to learn more about the exciting sport of fly fishing. Before long you will be an expert yourself and will enjoy your many fly fishing trips.
